Abstract
This study explores the contribution of the main components of financial infrastructure in Sudan and their impacts on the processes of financial and economic stability. In assessing its legal and organizational frameworks, a call for strengthening these components is necessary to influence financial accumulation processes and their flows including microfinance flow. Its design focuses on two main aspects, first, to provide comprehensive theoretical framework on Islamic financial infrastructure compared to the conventional knowledge on global financial infrastructure. Second, it incorporates historical and empirical tests for analyzing different components of financial infrastructure and their developments in the country.
Despite the balanced financial infrastructure components’ that resulted in relative success on macro finance and economic stability in the Sudan, practices at the micro-level (financial institutions) need to be tightened. In particular, the study showed that philosophical and practical challenges for some legal and organizational financial infrastructure components’ should be reviewed to avert their negative consequences. Arguably, as a first study in this field, the research lays an important foundation to investigate financial infrastructure, recommending further empirical studies on the topic to diagnose financial infrastructure lapses.
